Cruelty is NOT an essential part of criticism. If you think it is, you should work on yourself a bit before you start offering anyone your opinions on art/culture.

People who unironically want to be like Rick Sanchez are the same who will come and argue Joker did nothing wrong.
It really isn't about the protagonist' morality, chuds will latch to whoever feels cool or contrarian to the norm.
That's why so many were fuming at the legit good guy Superman film.
the reality is that this is impossible. You will always have someone misunderstand, fail to comprehend, or willfully misinterpret something. People will alter stories in their heads to be what they want or need them to be and you just can't change that.
I think it's pretty important to understand that algorithmically-run platforms have long understood anger and argument drives much more engagement than just showing you stuff you like, and if you find yourself being made to despair at what a platform shows you, that is the system working as intended
Writers don’t always write characters with the goal of making them “likable”.
Sometimes we write them with the goal of annoying you, specifically.
