There are a lot of posts out there with the close-up visual of Markwayne Mullin on January 6, but this is a better perspective.
He’s not protecting others; he’s protecting himself and hiding. You can see plenty of people at the entry door, ready to take on the insurrectionists, but not Markwayne.

If you’re registered to vote in Texas, you are now under GOP surveillance.
The party of “small government” and “individual privacy” just willfully turned over sensitive records on 18.4 million Texans.
You don’t strengthen democracy by spying on voters.

University of Texas regents OK limits on controversial subjects
Opponents warned the policy’s vagueness could push professors to self-censor and leave students less prepared for the workplace.
The University of Texas System’s Board of Regents unanimously approved a rule requiring its universities to ensure students can graduate without studying “unnecessary controversial subjects,” despite warnings it could leave them less prepared for the real world.

After 6 months of oversight visits to Camp East Montana, the $1.24 billion immigration detention facility in El Paso, it's clear the company running it is defrauding taxpayers, preventing detainees from talking to lawyers, and DHS is assisting them by obstructing Congress.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

Nebraska Chancellor’s Hasty Exit Raises Questions
University of Nebraska–Lincoln chancellor Rodney Bennett left six months before his contract ended, with a $1.1 million exit package, amid faculty outrage over program cuts.
Nebraska Chancellor Rodney Bennett is receiving a $1 million exit package amid a budget deficit he argued necessitated cuts. For Bennett, it's the second time he's left a job early since 2022. Criticisms at Nebraska echo those at Southern Miss.

The horrific tragedy at Brown University is the 389th mass shooting this year and the 230th gun incident on school grounds so far this year.
This is not normal and we don't have to live this way.

The integration of clinicaltrials.gov into Embase is becoming a problem with ILL. Folks think they are requesting an article, but no. Had to create a cancellation reason for it, directing them to our reference service point if they want us to see if anything has been published yet. #medlibs

Over the weekend, the “sandwich thrower” posters went up all over DC. Instant icon of resistance.
A remix of Banksy’s mural: not a Molotov, not a rock, but something just as disruptive, a hoagie hurled with defiance.

We are currently in Year 5 of the existing funding cycle. Under typical circumstances, the new RFA would have been released in June; however, it is now anticipated to be issued after the current cycle concludes on April 30, 2026. A "gap year" or a “Year 6” is expected with no additional funding, with the next funding cycle set to begin on May 1, 2027.
During that interim year (May 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027), many, if not all, Regional Medical Libraries and Offices will be closed. As a result, NNLM is not expected to offer funding opportunities, professional development, or related services during this time.
Potentially catastrophic behind-the-scenes news about the Network of the National Library of Medicine (www.nnlm.gov) shared with me today.
While some NNLM host institutions were able to float the offices while funding was paused or delayed in 2025... it is unlikely that happens again.
