The position โ€œAmerican shuls are presumed valid targets unless they proactively disavow Israelโ€ is as wrong as โ€œAmerican Muslims need to proactively disavow Islamist violence to be considered good, loyal Americans.โ€ Both are racist, and both are wrong.

After a series of fatal strikes involving civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, Congress directed the Pentagon to reduce civilian casualties as part of a 2019 law. During the Biden administration, the Defense Department created the Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response initiative.

The civilian mitigation teams โ€“ cut by 90% by Hegseth โ€“ work with military commanders on target planning, and making sure that targets are actually military sites. The teams help come up with "no strike" lists, including religious and cultural sites and schools

I knew that the Department of War shot a missile into a school & killed 175 civilians, mostly children.

This is learned today:

Secretary of War Hegseth had cut the teams assigned to prevent such tragedies by 90%.

Exit Condition On Alderson Loops, Billionaire Cruelty, and Living Inside the Trap โ€œPessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will.โ€ โ€” Antonio Gramsci, Prison Notebooks[1] I. The Loop In computer science, there ...

I spent the last week writing up this essay on what it means to be trans in this moment. What it means to live under authoritarianism as the scapegoated minority of the moment and how it feels inescapable as an infinite loop.

Undiagnosed ADHD is bad, but I think the most damaging part of it is spending an entire childhood feeling like a Bad Kid no matter how hard you try not to be.
You can't pay attention (you want to), you don't try hard enough (you want to), and you waste your time on useless stuff (you don't want to).

there was also a Stanford study that found that a surge in AI slop by lazy people actually created significantly more work for others who had to decipher and correct it

this "I'm being efficient" (but not really) vibes well with the American obsession with artifice and appearing productive

Close up of the back of a Tesla model 3 with two ANTIFA bumper stickers: โ€œI bought this car before Elon decided to be a supervillainโ€ and a drawing of Calvin (Hobbesโ€™ boy) mischievously peeing on the name โ€œElonโ€

Thereโ€™s a Washington state license plate with registration stickers from August 2025 - this is an old photo, my registration is current - unlike a huge number of freeway freeloaders who donโ€™t keep their registration current and donโ€™t pay to maintain the roads in WA (thatโ€™s part of why we need an income tax, which is funny because I know you are also the same ones complaining about it!)

Yes, I still have a Tesla - 2018 M3 AWD LR. Waiting for an 800v, 500 mile range, non-SUV to replace it - itโ€™s only got 52k miles, mostly road trips around the PNW and in-city errands. In the meantime, I get lots of compliments on the bumper stickers. ๐Ÿ˜œ

In just 2 days, Trump burned $6 BILLION on his war with Iran. He's spent billions more in the days since.

We could have DOUBLED our annual budget to help families afford child care. Or built more housing.

Instead, Trump's spent YOUR tax dollars on a war no one asked for.

"Jews don't belong in American society."

Imagine a sitting member of Congress tweeting that. You can't. Thankfully, it'd never happen. And *if* it did, it'd be the end of their career and the biggest story in America.

But Ogles can say this about Muslims without any censure.

It cannot be stressed enough how these Republicans donโ€™t see government jobs as jobs at all. They see them as titles, no-show gigs where they can do whatever they want. Thatโ€™s why ๏ฟผthey hated the people in those jobs before, they thought it was a scam because they donโ€™t believe in doing the work.

The morally bankrupt Trump administration has partnered with another morally bankrupt authoritarian to declare an unprovoked war on Iran, already killing scores of civilians.

We need an immediate vote from Congress on a War Powers Resolution. Then articles of impeachment.

There has never been a better time to accept and vocalize that Jews and the Israeli government are not the same thing. Yes, the Israeli government has worked hard for decades to make us believe opposing its actions is inherently antisemitic. But it isnโ€™t true. It never was.

We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time."
Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed.
That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.
