That's lovely. Portuguese azulejos tiles and Dutch Delft (from which London delftware was a descendant) all share influence of Chinese blue and white ceramics that were imported to Europe in 16/17th C. But all have a different take on how influence developed, how pieces were produced, where used.

Heaps of blue and white 'delftware' dishes, stuck together and with broken edges. The decorations appear to be individual designs, with flowers and foliage, geometric patterns, birds and brushstrokes. Several of the ceramic trivets are visible, intended to separate the dishes and prevent them from sticking together.
These were in the Museum of London before it closed in order to reestablish as London Museum in Smithfield Market, planned for later in 2026.
#FindsFriday
Stuff that's discarded tells a tale too.
These stacks of fused plates w trivets resulted from a Rotherhithe pottery kiln overheating disastrously c.1620-30.
Near Pickleherring site in Southwark, a London delftware production centre from c.1618.
Will they be in new London Museum 2026?

Terracotta model of a chair - or rather throne - decorated with sculptural pieces and polychrome.
The back, seat and legs have overall white decoration, in zig zag around the base of the seat where blue is also applied. The front feet are lions' paws. The arms rest on women's heads with white faces/necks and red hair and lips. The back has two crosses in open panels, with a long element along the top ending in roundels, and featuring two birds facing outwards.

Very easy to do I suspect. When I was there the uber-officious stewards were insisting on a one way system which took a bit of guile to avoid in order to see what most interested me. Really loved MArTa anyway though!

The museum only had 2 items displayed from the 1948 Via Argentina site, this and an Apulian red figured lekythos which is probably the one peeking out of the lower left corner. Had a 'doll' survived you'd think they'd mention/show it....

A stone doorway, partly restored, in the cloister wall of Gloucester Cathedral. It has triple columns on each side, leading to the ogee arch at the top. Decorative stonework is also seen on the walls to either side.
More an #AdoorableThursday doorway than door perhaps, but there's just something irresistible about an ogee arch....
This elegant example leads from
