This is another podcast I caught up with this week.

Ruthโ€™s episode is amazing. I urge you to listen to discover exactly what SOG events have to offer. Such good value for money, I guarantee there will be something of interest to anyone researching family history.

I spent a long time thinking about #1840s fashion when I was writing The Dress Diary & I miss it! It is a transitional decade but the fabric techniques were amazing. This fab black and white mosaic is at the entrance to the House of Marcus Caesius Blandus. I love how its marine theme - with its dolphins, hippocampus, trident and rudder- and the crenellated city wall at the top, hint at life in #Pompeii overlooking the Bay of Naples ๐Ÿ˜ #archaeology #MosaicMonday

It's a mosaic of a beetle. A stag beetle, we think, with its head at the bottom and its bum at the top.

A pottery beaker featuring a broad, rounded body with a distinct shoulder, a relatively narrow neck, and a flared rim. Decorated with swirling white patterns and letters around the shoulder. The brown surface is accented by a band of small circular motifs above the letters and painted face images on opposite sides. The vase is displayed against a dark blue background on a flat surface.

The lighthouse has four storeys, which are stepped inwards at each level. Tile width 20 cm. Two Roman lighthouses flanked the harbour at Dover, the main base of the Roman fleet โ€˜Classis Britannicaโ€™. On display at the British Museum.

British Museum photo of a Romano-British brooch in the form of a crouching hare, viewed from the side with head to the right. The hare has a long ear, an incised mouth which has a slight upwards curve as if smiling, and two curved legs (one back leg and one front leg). The brooch is cast from copper-alloy (bronze), now grey in colour. The body is inlaid with green enamel and has four decorative copper-alloy dots in the green enamel along the body. The head is decorated with a large circular green enamel inlay, at the centre of which is a copper-alloy dot for the eye. The brooch is displayed on a black background.
