Canada Warbler - A bird with a slaty gray back and wings, yellow on the chin and belly, a darker blue necklace of feathers, yellow eye ring. It is perched on a branch amid green leaves.

Warbler season is coming! 2020 was a weird year for lots of reasons, but that year my yard(!) was brimming with these colorful migrants. Hasn't been the same since then, but it made for a nice treat that year.

Small brown bird throws his head back and puffs out his chest and to sing his heart out from a dried ironweed flower head. He’s a warm beige color with intricate speckles of darker brown on his back and wings. His beak and legs are a pale pink. There’s a hint of lemon yellow on the armpits of his wings.

Amidst all the horrors of the threatened funding freeze (not even counting all the other horrors) the possible loss of Conservation Reserve Program funding (for grassland preservation) isn’t the most important story.

But it’ll doom the last Grasshopper Sparrows hanging on in Ohio and fuck that, man
