Mega baxcalibur

My first impression was “eh” but upon 15 seconds of taking it in and comparing it to regular baxcalibur, I’m more like *shrug* in a positive way. There is probably lore behind the sword that comes out of his back — he’s a newer ‘mon so I confess I didn’t know that was his whole shtick. He’s a’ight.

Mega glimmora

I mean, uh. Seems like a pretty standard mega evolution to me. Like someone designed it and everyone at the table collectively agreed that it indeed looks like a mega evolution. Not one of the cool megas, just a mega that is certainly a mega. The petals float though so I give it points for that.

Mega zeraora

Okay can someone tell me why one of the coolest pokemon designs ever made was sorta wasted on an obscure mythical no one remembers? Because zeraora is one of the coolest pokemon ever made. And the mega is somehow even better. The purrfect blend of cool and cute. Zeraora can never look bad I swear.

Mega magearna

Yo this one is kinda badass. Idk, I like it when we get robtronic pokemon designs, I am typically a fan of them. This one is more fashionable than the other one and got a nice polished paint job, as well as a new dress. I like the floating gears. I like anything that floats tbh.

They gave himb extra arms? I mean, it’s cool. Maybe it’s cooler in action. It’s a glowup for sure. Wait did he grow extra legs too or am I trippin’? How many appendages does my guy have? Also is this the shiny version or the regular one? I’M ACTUALLY UNSURE —

Getting into the designs I haven’t run into in-game yet.

Nice to see another rather underrated pokemon get some love. The design screams “fairy” though which apparently it’s not? I’m actually not sure how I feel about this one. I feel rather neutral to it. Not how I’d imagine his mega to look.

My tablet overheated immediately upon sketching the hellfire raining upon Lester and I might need some Romy Tears (TM) to cool things down a little.

It’s like. You get to a certain age. As a queer person. And you simultaneously recognize how much progress has been made in your lifetime in terms of queer rights but also how we have a lot of the same struggles, it’s just… the landscape is always a little different with every generation.

*imagines someone 20 years younger than me reading SlumberTown and wondering why Romy never heard of the term “nonbinary” until they were 24 years old despite growing up in New York City or why Boone is so deeply stealth and afraid of people discovering his dirty secret*

*imagines myself, in shame, explaining how I just thought everyone around me was faking attraction and desire for sex until I was in my twenties and “asexuality” was coined as a term and recognized widely as an actual sexuality you could have*

*imagines a kid asking me “how did you go so long before knowing you were trans?” and me having to, in embarrassment, explain that I just thought I had something very, very wrong with me until I was maybe 25 & discovered there were others like me, & I wasn’t some abomination in the eyes of the lord*

Obviously it’s a good thing because PROGRESS but it also makes me think about how growing up as a queer millennial (and telling queer millennial stories) might not hit for the younger gens in the same way.

Reading Gen Z queer stuff hits kinda different (makes me feel old) because characters will be teenagers and saying “I think I’m nonbinary/asexual/etc” and I’m like “oh yeah, kids these days sometimes have those terms to describe themselves” like WILD to think about having the language at that age.

I think I will probably be cleared but I’m still nervous for some reason lol
