Definitive answers to my "are poppers ACTUALLY just VHS head cleaner?" question have finally landed:
The stuff on Amazon is overpriced isopropyl alcohol (I looked at the SDS for one). The stuff in poppers are nitrites, like amyl nitrite and tert-butyl nitrite. You could use that for tape cleaning but it's way too expensive (10mL is like $30). Just buy cheap isopropyl alcohol.
