I confess I actually leave ISO on auto unless I actually need to make a hard correction.

I also tend to shoot on aperture priority since the auto shutter speed tends to be "correct" and my main concern is controlling DoF.

Digital "film speed" is probably the least like the analogue property of all the things DSLR's replicate from film photography, and I've witnessed first hand how much bad information there is about how to handle it in digital photography.
