You can choose to just believe the future will be better than the present or the past; there is ample evidence to suggest this. Just as there is ample evidence for the former.
When you become optimistic youβll find what happens is that the world continues to improve around you
If you believe that civilisation is doomed, society is irredeemable and the world is heading for collapse, you should think about whether this worldview is serving you well.

Itβs possible to genuinely experience this as true and when you do thereβs a powerful flywheel effect to it. Same with paranoia in the opposite direction.
Some people believe they are cursed/unlucky and it plays out as true. Some people believe they are lucky/have divine protection.

Iβm not much of a hippy but Iβm happy to entertain notions of animism that present things and places as having an innate spirit.
Itβs a useful heuristic and once you see/feel it itβs hard to unsee/unfeel it.
I walked into work yesterday and was immediately struck by how thick and heavy the air inside the building felt and how everything was designed in such a clinical way with straight lines and sharp edges. And how everyoneβs body language felt so contained and anxious.
I just got back from a weeklong festival in the middle of nowhere that was a beautiful experiment in decentralised community building and free expression.
