Literally Byard
You can still grab a guy and have two similar Safeties. But you want more interchangeability on the level of Hyde & Poyer. Guys who could wear multiple hats while still having strengths. Ideally the Bills get a ballhawk/range based Safety who can patrol the post, function in 2 high, + play the run
Especially if they play more single high coverages this year under Leonhard
Jaquan Brisker is an attractive name on the open market for Safety, but for the Bills thereβs a lot of sameness between him and Cole Bishop in terms of where they each work best, which is closer to the LOS/coming forward. Ideally theyβd get a more of a complementary skillset to Bishop
Also Jacob Martin
I think because of the difference in whatβs asked of them in pass pro and the run game. Thereβs more of a mental load on Centers, but still a fair amount on Guards + the physical load they bear from an assignment and responsibility standpoint
Need one of Leo Chenal or Kaden Elliss to be on the Buffalo Bills
Romeo Doubs is a great fit for what the Patriots needed at WR, and at an AAV of $20m (on the surface) is relatively in line with the market. That AAV would put Doubs T-24th amongst WRs with Jakobi Meyers
Voluntary liquidation
I could see Hawes getting some FB work. Brady didnβt lean into Gilliam as much as he couldβve so I donβt think heβs looking to incorporate a true FB too much. Ingold is awesome but he followed McDaniel to LA
Dawson Knox is an integral piece for the Bills TE room because he bridges the skillsets of Dalton Kincaid and Jackson Hawes (and is there when Kincaid is hurt). The only problem was his contract was too high and his cap hits were too much. Hopefully the Bills rectified that here
My 2nd was Tonga but heβs gone too haha. Yeah Iβd take Reader. Or Andrew Billings. Pickings are slim now for guys who can play Nose in an odd front and also give you some even front capability
The Free Agent Safety market has thinned in a hurry with all the agreements/signings announced today
The Panthers are playing for keeps to start Free Agency
I think heβs a fine/serviceable nickel. Wonβt be a liability but I donβt think they found some gem/stud. I expect them to play more base and/or use nickel as a true sub package. Which Alford will be fine for
Anthony is not mad, donβt put in the paper that he is mad.
Hahahahahahahaha well played
You get me
Great deal for a force multiplier vs the run like Roy Lopez is. Heβs a really underrated player and one that any team struggling against the run shouldβve looked to add
-long speed is fine, though not a strength and will get run by if his eyes or feet are off
-willing tackler. Looks to pick an ankle or throw the shoulder but will miss tackles due to technique and frame. 15.6% career miss rate
-smaller size and frame (listed at 5β11β 175 lbs) will limit him at tackle and catch points
-able to ID crossers/underneath routes. Match, carry, deliver capable
New Bills CB Dee Alford
-can function in man, match, & spot drop zone
-good coverage spacing & awareness. Active eyes/head
-short area quickness due to foot speed (not a bursty/twitchy mover)
-change of direction capable (not stiff but not explosive)
Heβs not the run defender Taron was/is, but heβs got some more coverage capabilities while not being a particularly twitchy mover or plus athlete
If itβs in comparison vs Alford, Alford gives some outside capabilities and can function downfield a bit better. Taron was/is a better run defender, but that role was going to take a hit under Leonhard because they werenβt going to be in Nickel almost exclusively like they were under McDermott
Dee Alford (20) outside and into the boundary vs McMillan. Size & frame disadvantage for Alford + McMillan is a good route runner. Alford stays in McMillanβs hip pocket through the double move & downfield. If he gets his head around he couldβve had an INT
Really nice play from Dee Alford (20) at the bottom of the screen on a 4th & 2. Sees the motion & formation change from the Colts, signals to 33 (likely communicating a switch/banjo call), then drives on the underneath throw for the PBU
Dee Alford (20) traveling with Olave on a 3rd & 4 and playing him in man coverage. Doesnβt attach to/get good hands Olave like he wants on the snap, but is able to change his angle and close down quickly to make a good stop (slightly offline throw helps)
Dee Alford (20) as the apex/slot to the top of the screen with the Falcons playing spot drop Cover 4. Alford makes the slot WR run around him while working to his spot, reads the QB, and makes a nice play on the ball for the INT
Dee Alford (20) as the apex/slot to the top of the screen. Reads the QBβs eyes and triggers on his set & transfer to get under the slant for the INT
