If you're fed up with Mike Miles' draconian policies, we can build something better—schools where:
• our kids are seen as whole human beings, not just test scores
• teachers are treated like the dedicated professionals they are
• parents' voices are heard
• our kids help shape their own education
Thank you to the @houstonchronicle.com for keeping the public informed on Greg Abbott's takeover of HISD, and also that we've got important school board elections 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 in Houston.
Real change happens when we meet communities where they are— where parents, students and teachers become the architects of change, not unelected ideologues 200 miles away.

The pieces are already there: in the relationships across our community, in the diverse lived experiences of our families, and in the teachers who fight for our kids every single day.
Schools where teachers are treated like the dedicated and hardworking professionals they are, where parents' voices are actually heard, and where students help shape their own education.
But here's what I do know: together, we can build something better. We can have schools that see our kids as whole human beings, not just test scores.
Right now, we're teaching our kids that their voices don't matter and that ideologues in Austin know what's better for our kids than we do.
What's happening in HISD right now is the opposite of that. We have an unelected board making decisions about our children while the people we actually voted for are forced to sit on the sidelines.
That's why I know real leadership isn't about having all the answers— it's about listening to people and working together to find solutions.

Being raised by a single mom taught me how to be resilient, but it was my teachers that taught me that nobody makes it on their own, and everyone has potential when someone believes in them.
"The data shows that HISD’s enrollment was declining by an average of about 2% each year in the five years prior to the state takeover in June 2023. Since then, the district’s student enrollment has declined by about 4% each year, largely driven by enrollment declines at the 130 NES campuses."
Socialism is what they called public power.
Socialism is what they called social security.
Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.
Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

What a testament to the power of real, authentic community organizing ❤️✊🏻

it is fun to read profiles of this guy which play him up as some diabolical mastermind and then watch him in action and see a huge loser

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM.
They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone.

it really is astounding that a presidential administration crashed the growth trajectory of the wealthiest country on the planet in basically two months
🚀🚀
one other way to think of this is that it is a massive program of upwards redistribution to wealthy business owners who can skimp on worker, consumer and environmental safety to juice profits for themselves www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/u...
First they came for the innocent man deported to a Salvadoran gulag on an “administrative error” they falsely claim they’re powerless to reverse, flouting court orders even from the Supreme Court — and I spoke out, because I know how the damn poem ends.

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie).
Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development

Some personal news: the Department of Homeland Security has given me, an immigration lawyer born in Newton, Massachusetts, seven days to leave the U.S. Does anyone know if you can get Italian citizenship through great-grandparents?
Not a single word to help the 33m small businesses in this country. Not from anyone in the administration.
So many buy from China, and don't have alternatives.
So many didn't have the cash to front run the tariffs and buy inventory
