been working on this story for a (very) long time. there’s been a ton of change at sxsw, now owned out of california, over the past year. lot of people who left the company think it’s doomed. current staff insist it’s about to enter a renaissance. i tried to understand how they can both think that.
Corli has been the community investment reporter at The TRiiBE for nearly two years, during which she has gone above and beyond in her role. In fact, The TRiiBE surpassed one million page views on its website largely due to Corli’s reporting on Cook County’s guaranteed income program. She is a dogged and compassionate reporter who’s integral not only to The TRiiBE team but also to Chicago’s media ecosystem.
We believe the grounds for our member’s termination are retaliatory and intended to send a chilling message: that, though TRiiBE leadership claims to support “workers’ rights to unionize,” they don’t actually mean it.
Corli Jay, The TRiiBE’s community investment reporter was terminated by TRiiBE leadership on March 9 alleging that she had broken nonexistent company ethics rules. We believe this is retaliation for organizing a union. One Triibe United demands the immediate reinstatement of our member and voluntary recognition of our union.

Graphic from The Sick Times sharing the latest COVID-19 trends for March 10, 2026. The graphic presents trends for three metrics: WastewaterSCAN category for SARS-CoV-2, which is “medium” (represented with a dark yellow color) and slightly decreasing (represented with a diagonal down arrow); CDC wastewater viral activity level for SARS-Cov-2, which is “low*” (dark yellow) and slightly decreasing; and CDC COVID-19 test positivity, which is moderate (darker yellow) and slightly decreasing. Text below these metrics reads: “*CDC wastewater viral activity levels are calculated based on measurements in the last two years only. They do not account for the lower spread that could be possible with more widespread precautions.”
This winter’s COVID-19 wave may have peaked at a lower point than we’ve seen in prior years, but it’s been a long one. And, months of moderate-to-high viral spread add up in causing severe disease and new Long COVID cases. This week's COVID-19 trends report: bit.ly/4cFvB6c

Happy birthday Cynthia Rothrock! here is the Cynthia Rothrock fight stick art I commissioned a couple years ago in honor of the Queen of Martial Arts!
When I'm upset that people don't read, I don't mean that in the liberal educator "if we just read we'd solve our problems" sort of way. I mean "there's a book which is in part about the death of 3rd person perspective, out for 2 years, and someone didn't read it before writing it as an article"
it’s international women’s day! could you share or donate a few bucks?
