Metrolinx struggled to tunnel under Hwy. 401, forcing lane closure and repairs | Globalnews.ca Since early 2023, a tunnel boring machine has been slowly making its way south from Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, digging out a route for the Scarborough Subway Extension.

Excellent piece by @isaaccallan.bsky.social and @colindmello.bsky.social about how difficult it was tunneling *perpendicular* under the 401. I believe it was tricky doing the same for the Kitchener Line / UP Express tunnel as well. A parallel tunnel to expand the 401 would be insane.
