We also hope to use membership funding to expand what we're able to do! We want to bring on more freelancers + columnists to share original reporting + analysis. We're hoping to do more in-person events, like our upcoming pod recording in Austin with the Observer

Your memberships allow us to continue to exist, first and foremost. They ensure TPM can continue to cover the tragicomedy of US politics in a no-bullshit way that increasingly few outlets are able to do, or interested in doing.
Another thing that makes TPM unusual is that 91% of our newsroom's income comes from memberships and reader funding. Your support directly pays for our staff to have salaries and healthcare. It puts money in our freelancers' bank accounts.
TPM is a strange, special place to work. We're small and scrappy and built around some big personalities. We have a ton of editorial freedom and independence. Staff stick around. And we're lucky to have close relationships with our readers, many of whom have been reading the site since the 2000s.
Did you know @talkingpointsmemo.com is having its annual membership drive right now? No tote bag involved, just some of the best reporting, analysis, muckraking, and sense of humor of any outlet around. I've been a member for a long time, and you should be too!

Or, in the words of journalist and historian @rickperlstein.bsky.social, βIf you are interested in how the American right went insane, TalkingPointsMemo.com is your actual publication of record.β

As @michaelehayden.bsky.social of the Posting Through It podcast put it, TPMβs coverage βintroduc[es] characters now that youβll be talking about in like a yearβ¦before they become memes.β Like this guy.

@kateriga.bsky.social has chronicled Trumpβs assault on independent agencies, and the fallout from the Supreme Court essentially declaring Trump a king.

We did granular coverage of the Big Lie long after most outlets stopped paying attention. Now the Jan. 28 Fulton County raid signals how the Trump admin plans to use debunked 2020 lies to interfere with upcoming elections.

TPM's coverage has anticipated some of the biggest stories of the second Trump administration.
@joshkovensky.bsky.social predicted the occupation of blue cities, and was early to highlight Greg Bovino as the posterchild for Trump's immigration crackdown.

Epstein is not proof Q was "right." Epstein is proof Q was catastrophically wrong. The cabal hasn't been shattered. The world hasn't been saved. Everyone got away with it, and the guy meant to usher in "the storm" is the one protecting the worst of the worst.

@talkingpointsmemo.com remains a vital daily read for me.
Iβve been a subscriber for many years, and a reader since the hey-day of blogs.
I've been a TPM member since 2016 and you should seriously considering becoming one, as well. It's never been more important to support independent journalism.
Just do it. You won't look back.
Already a member but considering working on a list of sites worth supporting now that a large chunk of my subscriptions budget is free (cancelled NYT, Paramount, etc. etc.)
Thinking of:
TPM
The Guardian
BBC
NPR
Economist
What else?
Thank you Paul!
Worth every penny imo
Alright that's enough for Day 1. If you weren't persuaded this time, don't worry, I'll be back :)

3. Good journalism requires a committed investment.
Last year, the success of our Membership Drive helped us hire two new journalists. We are committed to investing in journalism. That's where the membership dollars go. We're a lean organization.
2. Our primary focus right now is chronicling our national crisis.
The necessary accountability for the wrongs of the Trump administration require journalists on the ground uncovering and documenting the truth. It's an active pursuit.
