Amen—nobody from ESPN (or the Ringer) has actually “covered” the Bucks for years. They just talk about the team, and those are completely different things.

This has really bothered me because it’s not just that the nat’l media hasn’t said “hey cool, these guys are going down fighting,” but there is a sizeable cohort that will do a segment on the evils of tanking and then next segment is “Bucks are fucking this up they should be tanking.”

I think Gavin Newsom is going to tank faster than Jeb did. Just a complete media-created hype machine with no juice whatsoever. Of those who are plausible candidates, I’d vote for AOC or Pete.

Jim, I don’t want to be dramatic, but I legitimately think your “What are we doing here??” piece and the Giannis interview piece forced the team and Giannis to get on the same page. I’m probably creating my own narrative but it seems at least plausible.

I was there in person last night and it was actually a very peaceful experience changing my lens to “tank mode.” At no point in the 4th Q was I remotely worried we would win. A wizard fan told me they were concerned we were a threat to jump them in lottery odds.

I will get over it, but what is bothering me rn is that it seems like this season was dead on arrival at least in part bc everyone in the locker room knew he was trying to leave. And I think had he given them a chance to actually do a gap year they could have made a real run in the East in his 30s.

I’m probably being dramatic right now, and in reality will root for him, just need some time. I will always be uber interested in his career. I do think context will matter — is he on a super team? Or pulling a good but not great roster over the hump? Hard to say how I’ll feel til I see it.

Does not change how I feel about his Bucks tenure. However, I will not root for (or against) him in another jersey.

Today is I think legitimately the first day I believe it’s over. It seems now like it was over before it began—he gave this no runway. They are sub .500 mostly bc he hasn’t played (I get this team is severely flawed, but I still think we are a top 5 seed if KPJ and Giannis stayed healthy).

Idk, it seems plausible they can be noticeably better than on D this year. They have 32 fewer minutes of Dame on the perimeter, a starting center that’s more dynamic on D than their last one, and won’t have TP playing out of position on D each night. The rest is mostly the same, right?

I don’t strongly disagree, but I think the Pistons, Magic, Hawks, Bucks group is completely up for grabs, and there isn’t a favorite for the 3 seed. Of that group, Hawks and Bucks have most potential to look way different (better?) from last season.

Thanks, Keith—I’m still unsure what the reason for doing this is though. Is this part of their effort to sign other free agents, or is this an effort to include him in a trade in the coming weeks? Maybe both?
