Cassava Brown Streak Disease has reached parts of Mulanje - but farmers aren’t standing still.
With support from the Ministry of Agriculture and District Agriculture Office teams, they’re already taking action: uprooting affected plants, replanting clean tubers, and protecting future harvests. 🌱

At the launch event, Tiyeni and our colleagues provided both theoretical and practical learning for lead farmers in Chiwamba. This helps them build their skills in Integrated Catchment Management. Our goal is to empower them to share their knowledge with other farmers, as well as on their own land.
How do you begin Integrated Catchment Management? At Tiyeni, we start with field activities for the local community. These include baseline data collection, sensitization introductory meetings, training for Lead Farmers and formation of new Committees. Here we are in action in Chiwamba.

Harvest season also means mulching season! In contrast to the common yet environmentally-destructive process of burning crop residue after harvest, DBF farmers leave reside to decompose on their land as mulch, which actively benefits the environment. Learn more: bit.ly/4jsLOw1
