ITS TIIIIIIIIIMEEEEEE
There are many reasons I decided to a PhD.
But one of them was definitely being more obnoxious at Christmas dinner with right wing relatives.
Hope they enjoy my PowerPoint on intersectional feminism! *sips baileys*
In the Guardian interview, Rea stated that he never played the song live until 2014 at Hammersmith Odeon; he recalls: "the gig was on 20 December, so the road crew kept badgering me to do it. I went, 'If I'm going to sing this fucking song, we're gonna do it properly.' So we hired 12 snow cannons. When we started the song, you couldn't hear it for the noise of the crowd, and we let go with the machines. We put three feet of artificial snow in the stalls. The venue charged me ยฃ12,000 to clean it up".
Who knew Chris Reaโs Driving Home For Christmas was so punk!

In public health, education, justice reform, etc., if your work invokes intersectionality, ask yourself:
1. Are you naming the systems of oppression involved?
2. Are you centering those most impacted?
3. Are you pushing for systemic accountability and not just surface level inclusion?
Intersectionality should be used to challenge and transform NOT just describe.
When we reduce intersectionality to a buzzword we ignore the power dynamics it was intended to expose and strip its analytical power. This framework is aboutย naming and confronting the interlocking systemsย that produce inequity and NOT just counting categories like race, gender, or class.
Intersectionality is NOT simply about listing/describing identities. It is aย frameworkย toย name and analyze how systems of power intersect and compoundย to create differential experiences of marginalization and privilege, especially for those whose identities overlap in structurally marginalized ways.
