In the Guardian interview, Rea stated that he never played the song live until 2014 at Hammersmith Odeon; he recalls: "the gig was on 20 December, so the road crew kept badgering me to do it. I went, 'If I'm going to sing this fucking song, we're gonna do it properly.' So we hired 12 snow cannons. When we started the song, you couldn't hear it for the noise of the crowd, and we let go with the machines. We put three feet of artificial snow in the stalls. The venue charged me £12,000 to clean it up".

In public health, education, justice reform, etc., if your work invokes intersectionality, ask yourself:
1. Are you naming the systems of oppression involved?
2. Are you centering those most impacted?
3. Are you pushing for systemic accountability and not just surface level inclusion?
Intersectionality should be used to challenge and transform NOT just describe.
When we reduce intersectionality to a buzzword we ignore the power dynamics it was intended to expose and strip its analytical power. This framework is about naming and confronting the interlocking systems that produce inequity and NOT just counting categories like race, gender, or class.
Intersectionality is NOT simply about listing/describing identities. It is a framework to name and analyze how systems of power intersect and compound to create differential experiences of marginalization and privilege, especially for those whose identities overlap in structurally marginalized ways.
