The number of birds in the US and Canada has fallen by 2.9 billion, or 29 percent, since 1970.
Forest-dwelling birds are doing OK. The big losses correlated with hot places: Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona.

The notion of journalism as a public service is under assault. And nowhere is that more evident than in the retreat from climate coverage. Reporting on climate takes patience, in the newsroom and from the audience. But it's critical, and newsrooms who care about serving their readers do it anyway.
Perhaps it was coincidental timing, but nothing underscores the collapse of the Washington Post like firing most of the Pulitzer prize winning #climate reporters the very same day as their opinion pages publishes a BS screed by climate misinformer Bjorn Lomborg.
89% of people around the world want their governments to act faster on the #climatecrisis

When we launched #The89Percent Project, the goal was to draw attention to the fact that an overwhelming majority of the worldβs people β 80 to 89% β want their governments to βdo moreβ about climate change.
Now, in the next phase of the project, itβs time to explore who those people are...

Enjoyed talking with @coveringclimatenow.org's Mark Hertsgaard about my reporting on Warren Buffett's climate legacy, and Buffett's successor Greg Abel. I shared some advice for non-environment journalists who want to tap into climate, which hopefully everyone does: www.thenation.com/article/envi...
It's one of the important findings of the research that underpins our www.89percent.org project. Most people in the world care about the climate crisis and want their governments to do something about it, but -- and this is critical -- they don't realize they're part of the 89 percent.

βOne of the most powerful forms of climate communication is just telling people that a majority of other people think climate change is happening, human-caused, a serious problem and a priority for action,β said Prof Anthony Leiserowitz at @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social in the US. #The89Percent
A major new project led by 500+ media outlets from 60 countries aims to amplify the βsilent climate majorityββthe 80β89% who want urgent climate action but donβt realize theyβre not alone. Energy Mix Productions is proud to take part. More on #The89Percent project:
So while itβs important that journalists write about the problems causing the climate crisis, itβs also important to βput a spotlight on the millions of people from every walk of life who are rolling up their sleeves and already taking action,β says Anthony Leiserowitz. β¨β¨#The89Percent #EarthDay

How might this majorityβs actions β as citizens, as consumers, as voters β change?"
Attacks on climate and climate orgs are rebutted by the fact that most people in the world care about the climate crisis and want their governments to address it. #The89Percent www.89percent.org www.theguardian.com/environment/...
