I'll be presenting at Universidade de Santiago de Compostela on how deep aid cuts are bringing the encampment model of refugee hosting in low-income settings to a breaking point.
The talk is based on a new working paper with @yangyangzhou.bsky.social, @shelbycarvalho.bsky.social, and Iman Dahr.
I know that almost a decade after the Access Hollywood tape broke, weβre somehow just accustomed to our president being a sexual predator.
But itβs hard to exaggerate just how insane it is that credible stories of sexual assault and pedophilia by our president arenβt headline news everywhere.
He has been attacking Allies all year, belittled their past war efforts, and did not engage in coalition building before the war. Then he whines when other sovereign countries refuse to join an ill-defined war.
You are right. I was referring the way it was reported in the Israeli media ; that others should not die for returning Ronβs remains. Itβs still notable that the family issues a statement asking the IDF to refrain from such future operations.
Like with social media - first the service was free and then, when they know tons about us, we become the product. The likelihood OpenAI and others start soon selling our data to advertisers is almost certain.
Dan - I think we (PS and Sociology) may need to adopt a more Econ model whereby scholars donβt need more than 4-6 papers when they come up for tenure and the file is assessed on quality over quantity.
We are on day 6 of the war, and the administration still cannot give a straight answer whether the goal of the war is regime change. Unserious people inflicting serious harm.

We rightfully focus a lot on Pam Bondi's DoJ cover-up. But we sure as hell don't talk enough about what the hell Merrick Garland's DoJ did sitting on these materials for 4 years without prosecuting anyone.
based on?
This guy is truly embarrassing at a deep level.
The Saudis have an interest in reducing Iran's military capability and, especially, to set back further its nuclear program, not necessarily to make it a failed state.
Israel is targeting critical infrastructure and police stations- these targets donβt pose security threat but are about reducing state capacity.
Not enough reporting on the fact that Netanyahuβs government goal of making Iran a failed /crippled state isnβt in the interest of the USA and its Gulf Allies.
Train operators and their families can make a lot of money from inside trading...
The Republican Party is benefiting from Crypto (very large donations from early investors), so it has no incentive to regulate that lane.
The argument for legalizing vice is always the same - tighter regulation and more tax revenue.
Itβs already abundantly clear that itβs disastrous especially for young male who are racking up cc debt on betting and are becoming singe issue voters on crypto because of their significant exposure.
Imagine taking something that's led to tons of death threats against professionals in different sports (video games included) and thinking it would be a good idea to stake it on politicians' lives instead
Making it so easy to bet on sports and politics has been such a disastrous policy choice.
Not being able to keep the story straight for such high stake operation is truly amateuristic.
It was fun chatting with Dean Trodden.
In addition to not making much sense, this war rationale feeds into the worst antisemitic tropes advanced by right-wing influencers like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Nick Fuentes.

Trump gets such special treatment , the media does not bother criticizing him for overseeing a war from an insecure country club instead of the WH situation room.
Kind of amazing that both Rubio and Johnson basically said Israel dragged Trump into the war. How does that not play out badly with their base?
For a new research project in Kenya, we are looking for an updated list of EAs (2019 Census EA frame), ideally with their centroid coordinates. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I agree, Ken. The idea that somehow the war is fought on behalf of the Iranian people is a sad joke.
1. who knows? The Trump administration never made a case for the war, and did not clarify its goals.
2. A 3-4 weeks joint US-Isr campign against military targets can cause serious damage.
3. I agree that Israel offers no diplomatic solution to prevent such wars from reoccurring every few years.
The savings we're getting here by annihilating decades of American science will pay for whole minutes of the operation to create decades of death, immiseration, and chaos in Iran.
