ICE Arrests Mississippi Father at His Citizenship Hearing
ICE arrested Kasper Eriksen, a Mississippi father, at his citizenship hearing, imprisoning him and threatening him with deportation.
When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen.
Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison.

Tomorrow, 3yo has a field trip to the fire station, a pizza party back at school, then her first-ever play date at a friend’s house. I’m not sure you can have a better day when you’re 3. I would rate the excitement level as somewhere between extremely and insanely high

If this person sat next to you on a bus or train and started ranting about Bruce Springsteen in this way, you would get up and move to a different seat.
In the United States, we have him the nuclear codes.

It’s a dreary day in Pittsburgh and democracy is crumbling so I searched “melancholy musical songs” on Spotify before realizing what I wanted is literally already one complete musical

My kindergartener cried last night because he was scared of his first lockdown drill today. So thanks America. Good time to roll back gun regulations. Great.

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

The tragic decline of the Washington Post, thanks to Jeff Bezos
Full (blistering) statement here from Marty Baron, former top editor; and one from a ranking editor, Cameron Barr, as he severs his Post ties
I continue to subscribe to the Washington Post because of outstanding reporting of its journalists. At first sign of Bezos’s heavy, partisan hand altering news coverage, I will cancel my subscription. I worry for all the journalists there who deserve a champion.

Hello, #Pittsburgh Bluesky! My theater company, Vigilance, is having its annual fundraiser this Friday.
I don't mind telling you: Times are TOUGH for arts organizations, as grant money all goes to a thousand other things that are on fire. So we need community support!

What Gutting USAID Means for My Young Patients in Burundi
“To my patients and their mothers, I offered apologies from the American people,” writes Dr. Jennifer Furin.
This is a gut-wrenching, beautifully written essay. A doctor must watch helplessly as children die because USAID's freeze on aid has limited access to nutritional supplements. time.com/7258248/us-f...

Photograph of a warehouse in Kinshasa where unboxed tuberculosis medications are going undistributed due to the stop work order by the Trump Administration.
Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order.
TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

Caring for migrants and refugees is not optional for Catholics.
Jesus calls us to care for those in need—regardless of national boundaries.
Nations have the right to protect their borders, broadly speaking. But this does not absolve the Christians within those borders from doing all they can to help migrants and refugees. And telling them, “Go home!” is not what Jesus had in mind.

Why I'm quitting the Washington Post
Democracy can't function without a free press
Anne Telnaes, Pulitzer-winning editorial cartoonist for the Washington Post, has resigned.
The paper censored a cartoon that criticized billionaires.
Democracy dies in broad daylight, too.

She enjoyed the movie when we watched it today, but for me it was absolutely magical. I didn’t realize seeing Ariel’s treasure trove in Part of Your World brought to life would affect me so much. The lagoon in Kiss the Girl was the same.
Review over. I’m a happy mom today.

Remakes of things I love make me nervous. The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie when I was young. I had a tie-dye blue and green dress I wore around my waist as a tail. I’m wearing it in my brother’s prom pictures. I wore it so much my mother hid it and told me she lost it.
