a short anthology of palestinian writing on the nabka, incl poetry & prose. broad in the authors it includes, tho i think the downside is that many pieces are excerpts of longer pieces or poems. a good starting if you want to find more palestinan authors to read.

i have a p old basic kobo & find it good. i get migraines too & the ereader has never been an issue, it's quite easy to customise the font, font size, & expand the line spacing if needed.

even prior to this, there's some very reductive east v. west framings of the concept of self that felt, again, v over simplified & i mostly only carried on with this to try & finish it before it was due back at the library. i tried to take this with a pinch of salt, but it's just so imbalanced

the book lambasts carl rogers specifically & other humanistic psych generally for believing a "perfect [good] authentic self" exists & should be expressed. if you read rogers, it's clear he didn't believe this. but the patriarchal culture of this cohort of psychologists merits one critical paragraph

while i am biased by my profession (therapist), i don't think any theory or practice of psychology is beyond critique. but if you're going to criticise something, focusing on oversimplifications that are easily proven to be false is not it!

DNF. i tend to dislike pop psychology books so was already skeptical. quit halfway through; the chapter on humanistic psychology is based on so many false assertions, it pissed me off & made me doubt everything i'd read before (which already felt very over simplified).

deeply!! he'd worked there 25 years & it didn't mean a fucking thing to them, i know a lot of the other older academics in the dept were really shook by how callous the management response was
