I find the news very frightening right now, but one thing that helps me is noticing the birds all around me

Do you want a reason to spend 10 minutes a day noticing your local birds? Then join me for this spring’s #TenMinMerlin, using the (free) app Merlin to notice birds. No experience needed!

Reupping

Sadly, the match imbalance, which we thought had peaked in 2009-10 and in recent years had almost disappeared due to APPIC et al.’s hard work, seems to be returning 😞

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Please stop saying the bill allows "no more multi-year funding" - or at least be clear the 'more' is in reference to disastrous FY25 levels.

The bill allows 39% MYF, same as in FY25, which contributed substantially to a 24% drop in new research.

The bill has some wins. MYF is not one of them.

Nice! September will be 20 years quit for me, after 20 years of smoking. Zyban, a quit date, & gradual tapering was πŸ—οΈ. 1st 3 days sucked but since then I haven’t looked back. My only regret was that I didn’t try sooner. Anyone out there wondering: you can do it. You’ll be glad you did ❀️ 🫁 πŸŽ‰

If we continue to compromise with people whose stated goal is to destroy NIH, then we will not be successful in saving it.

The proposed changes reported over the weekend to FDA vaccine approvals are unethical to patients and healthcare providers across our nation.

We have real healthcare delivery issues in need of clear headed leadership. Not this.

James Watson, dead at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers James Watson, the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA who died Thursday at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers.

Surreal to read the words of the late Sharon Begley in STAT's obituary of James Watson, whom she describes as legend of science but also a man whose "public and unrepentant racism and sexism ... made him a pariah in life and poisoned his legacy in death"
