An illustration by Radha Joshi Raulgaonkar from When the Banyan Sways. Bhootram, a blue, cloud-like ghost, sits under a banyan tree holding a brown spotted dog with a curly tail. Bhootram is wearing a thick gold necklace and thick gold bracelets. He has a red bindi on his forehead. He looks very upset as he tries to straighten the happy dog’s tail. A single pink curly toed shoe rests on the ground next to him.

Tired of always being on the back foot, Kalia the shoemaker enlists a dangerously efficient ghost to help him and then needs to find work to keep it busy, so he and his family don’t get eaten in ‘A Curly Tale’, one of four wonderful Indian folktales in WHEN THE BANYAN SWAYS.

TO SEE THE STARS is a powerful coming-of-age story that follows a young girl from outport Newfoundland as she finds her voice amid the early workers' rights movement in 1900's New York.

A moving tribute to the women of that era, and a great read for #InternationalWomensDay.

Did you know that one collective noun for a group of puffins is a circus? Lori Doody took that as inspiration for her latest book, a counting board book for her littlest readers: PUFFIN CIRCUS 1 2 3!

When Bernice Morgan and her siblings were little, winter meant a lot time inside playing and reading by the stove, or bundling up to make snowmen and forts in the field. Read about how children played in 1930's St. John's, season by season, in SEASONS BEFORE THE WAR.

A screenshot of the review of All of Us [text in image] All of Us, by award-winning writer and illustrator Manon Gauthier, is a celebration of the cell (the smallest part of all living things), From snow leopards , penguins, and polar bears, to our human families, the cell connects all of us. The simple text in this book is accompanied by quirky paper-collage illustrations. On close inspection, young readers will notice that each illustration has an element of design that highlights this cellular connection. All of Us is a delightfully creative non-fiction book that ends with suggestions for how students can use collage to explore their own creative process. Available in English and French, this book would be of interest to students aged 5 to 8 and accessible to young readers aged 7 and 8

When she saw the artifacts of WH’s life in The Rooms, Bushra Junaid's imagination was caught by the mystery of this unidentified Black sailor found in Labrador, and the sense of kinship that she felt with him.

Her moving prose poem THE POSSIBLE LIVES OF WH, SAILOR is the result.
