I really enjoyed this! Thnx for sharing. It had me thinking about Graeber's essays on intellectuals, vanguardism, and the bullshitification of academia, about Feynman's description of Mayan astronomy, and about a great many manga characters (eg Lelouch's embodiment of the paradox of evil).

Neat info/story!! As a grad student, I had the privilege of touching some student labs equipment that Kusch used when he taught labs at UT Dallas. I could tell he left quite the impression on the senior faculty there π«‘π―π―

Thats a nice plot. 'Seems to be' is putting it lightly tho. It is systemic, as Catton showed 40 years ago, due to our societal transition from circular to linear economy. The empirical evidence is overwhelming.

Compassion is what you're good at. I'm better at complex searches through organized data structures.

Even gentle people recognize that sometimes the decision not to kill is a decision to die.

But then, I would rather be mocked for doing a good thing than to be respected, knowing I have done wrong.
Orson Scott Card, Children of the Mind (Ender's Saga, #4)
I once heard a tale of a man who split himself in two.
The one part never changed at all; the other grew and grew.
The changeless part was always true, The growing part was always new,
And I wondered, when the tale was through, Which part was me, and which was you.

All the stories are fictions. What matters is which fiction you believe.

I do not care what comes after; I have seen the dragons on the wind of morning.

Maybe theyre thinking that the starlink constellation satelites are unlikely to collide with themselves, so lowering them all will move them out of the way of other space debris thst are not part of the starlink constellation. They can control the positions of the constellation, not the other debris
Oh i see. The epicycles dont apply to the Fixed Stars (8th sphere), Primum Mobile (9th sphere), or the Empyrean; only to the planets. Makes sense! This article helped
