If you use any non steam game launchers or programs, I recommend looking into Faugus Launcher. It lets you use proton without adding the game to steam. I've had a lot better experience using that over Lutris as well. You'll likely see most old tutorials recommended Lutris so figured I'd mention it
I switched to CachyOS for about a month now. It's much easier to use Arch based distros than it was years ago. Not only does cachy have their own wiki but you can always use the Arch wiki too. I've had very little issues so far.
You'll likely need to tweak things no matter what distro though

I will say you will likely run into issues at some point with Linux. I've recently switched over from Windows and so far I've been able to get everything to work. If you do use an Arch based distro the AUR does have a package for Maya. I can't say how well it works though.
I haven't experimented with it myself, but from what I know Rocky Linux is the preferred distro for any major 3D package on Linux (Maya, Houdini, etc). But you can for sure get everything running on a Wayland based system. If you're considering Arch I'd look into CachyOS
