He’d managed for that long after all. The lovely couple let us know where they’d found him and we had a couple of unsuccessful trips down looking for him. Today we got another phone call after he was located and… here he is. Scraggly and quite underweight, but home.

On New Year’s Day we recieved a call from our old vet - Gershom had been brought in, and while underweight he was basically well. We hadn’t answered immediately and the people who’d found him weren’t able to keep hold of him, so the vet suggested they let him go where they’d found him.

Around 3 months before we moved from London to Birmingham, Gershom disappeared. We’d never known how old he was, and because he’d been around pretty solidly I had always assumed that as cats often do, that he’d gone off to find a quiet place to die.

In 2016 we adopted a stray that our two cats had befriended. He was un-neutered and in a rough shape, with an abscess above his eye and generally downtrodden. We named him Gershom, after the firstborn son of Moses whom he named that “because I have been a stranger is a strange land.”
