Please check out our new preprint! Using single cell analysis paired with HCR to visualize transcript localization we have identified cell and tissue-specific expression of various genes encoding tubulins, kifs, and dyneins during neural crest development!

Alt: a clown is sitting at a desk with a computer looking emotionless
So I asked my capstone undergrad class today if anyone had heard of or knew what microarrays were...

Graphic with scientific image and text: The image features a dark, high-resolution microscopy view of a small organism shown from above, with green and red fluorescent signals highlighting internal structures against a black background. The scientific image is placed at the top and framed by a wide light blue background.
Below the image, bold white sans-serif text appears inside dark magenta rectangular boxes reading, βHOW GUT MICROBES INFLUENCE THE HEART.β In the lower right corner is a dark blue βMAX DELBRΓCK CENTERβ logo.
Some gut bacteria talk to the heart β through the brain.
Researchers at the #mdcBerlin identified a gutβbrainβheart pathway in zebrafish. A microbial metabolite (IAA) influenced specific neurons and heart function.

idk that seems to be the understatement of the week. this is actually happening, postdocs and RAs are being let go, and projects falter. 'could face funding gaps'? this is actually happening at a large scale. 'Worry' doesnt reflect the existential crisis that many of my colleagues are in.

A sneak peak of a complex and technically challenging experiment that my lab developed: doi.org/10.1096/fj.2.... Super proud of PhD candidate Hannah Johnson for showcasing our Whole-gut spatial genomic analysis in #zebrafish. This video illustrates one landmark in the protocol after multiple 1/3

I will never understand how this is allowed to happen. There has to be a way to address this in a real way from NIH's end?

I know this may be played out by now, but I wanted to start a post (and hopefully get some real ideas) about what non-PI options there are out there for trainees considering careers after their PhDs. Especially now in 2026, after the hurricane we called 2025. They are anguished. Thanks, Everyone!
