Only took notice now of the death of Malcolm Budd. Never had the chance to meet him, but very fine philosopher. Also, he never replied to my emails, which shows his soundness of judgment.

I dreamed I found a 6 volume PhD thesis on Wittgenstein by ex-cyclist Richard Virenque in an obscure French academic library that also happened to serve good Italian food. The first volume was a historical contextualisation and contained only reproductions of Belle ร‰poque ads for aperitives.

You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).

Today is philosophy day. Philosophy is hard (as Gareth Evans once put it). But that doesn't mean that, thereby, today is a hard day. How strange.

My 2 Pfennig joke about Schuringaโ€™s book was: Are all these people still going on about the distinction between "analytic" and "continental" philosophy using or mentioning it?

I was lucky enough to be a guest a few times. Right before starting he would say, "our audience is very well informed, so go as deep as you want, and if need be I'll ask you to clarify." Thought that was pretty amazing, like, the opposite of saying "dumb it down please."

I am obviously not up to date, but my three favorite classic albums might be "Suprรชme NTM" from NTM, "La Rage de dire" from Fabe, and "Hip Hop Forever" from Busta Flex.

Update(s) from Serbia: the School of Philosophy at the University of Novi Sad has been overtaken by the police, who have evicted the students occupying the building since the start of the student-led movement for social change. The police are now attacking citizens who came to support students.

Seems to me that there are contexts where you might not be surprised by the content, as it might be banal (say, something significant but pretty generic about oneโ€™s childhood), but surprised that you are considered to be the kind of conversational partner fit for that kind of content
