Btw there's a difference between "I enjoy your work, thanks," and "I have extensive notes on how you can improve this book that is already in bookstores," the first is always nice to hear, the second will get you a dead blank expression and utter silence

(Occasionally someone in real life will try to offer me feedback on an already-published novel, usually someone who is not a writer or editor. This does not generally go very well for them.)

Badenoch denies calling for UK to join US-Israeli war on Iran Conservative leader accused of taking confusing position after she said Starmer should β€˜do more than catch arrows’

At the most basic level of 'have some self-respect', Conservative MPs should not put forward someone who visibly is not intellectually equipped to be prime minister as their candidate to be prime minister.

If Keir Starmer stood up in the Commons and said ”don’t drink bleach” Kemi would be flooring it down to the nearest B&Q

Embargo seems to be up. Project Hail Mary is the crowd-pleasing, hope-giving, big A-list movie-movie we don’t get much anymore. Scope is massive and the humor is on point, keeping the dire stakes from being overwhelmingly bleak. I’d lie, cheat, steal, kill, and die for Rocky.

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

Never posted about STAR TREK and probably never will again, but...

"I've never seen any Star Trek so I decided to watch TOS. I'm halfway through the first episode and I just don't think I can take all this bad acting and terrible special effects."

...doesn't make you sound smart or look cool.

Mr Men are really into brogues, aren’t they? Had the range published a year or two later they might all have been drawn wearing Adidas three stripes.

INB4 the 46.7% of BlueSky users who lack a sense of humour "well actually" me on the use of 'Boomer' there.

I'm talking about the birth boom that happened after the liberalising economic laws of 1846.

IN YOUR FUCKING FACES, PUNKS.

I thought that if you hurt somebody, especially if you kill their family, they just roll over and do whatever you want? Weird. Anyway, time to watch my favourite films: John Wick, Taken, Nobody, Kill Bill, Blue Ruin, Oldboy, The Equalizer, History of Violence, Mandy, I Saw the Devil (Thread 1/58)

Nothing about A PIECE OF THE ACTION makes sense and it's still A+ Star Trek.

Whenever I dig up a lesser-known cartoonist or character, there's always someone who says "I thought everybody who mattered was already familiar with this one." Yes, and that's why I don't write for "everybody who matters."

The problem with this is that at least a quarter of my Bluesky mutuals are bigger archive TV buffs than I am, so even if I mention something that 99.9% of people have never heard of I'd get a hundred replies saying "Surely everyone's seen that? I got the DVD in a Network sale in 2015!"

Andrew Stanton's John Carter was released 14 years ago today.

A film neglected by Disney, which was about to buy Star Wars (while A Princess of Mars, the original novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, was a source of inspiration for George Lucas).

You’d think in this era of β€œMPs face increasing danger” there would be more outrage at newly elected Green MP Hannah Spencer being assaulted by transphobes but it’s nowhere to be seen on BBC News app even if you search her name

here’s a prediction…the tech that Pixar uses to make films isn’t prohibitively expensive like it was in the 90’s. thats not a barrier anymore. eventually, some lean, mean indie animation studio, probably a bunch of young people, will make a movie full of heart that will beat Pixar at their own game.

Asking "Why is Ms Sampietro going to hell for loving a woman but the president is going to heaven even though he is lying about Saddam being involved with Al-Qaeda" and not receiving a good answer, which culminated in being told I was going to hell for asking so many questions (more or less)

Mojtaba Khamenei, a son of Iran's late supreme leader, is chosen to replace his father A secretive figure within the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei was not seen publicly in the days after an Israeli airstrike targeting the supreme leader’s offices killed his 86-year-old father atΒ th...

The U.S. killed his father and his wife at the start of this β€œnot-a-war war,” and now everyone’s wondering why he might not be friendly toward America. As Inigo Montoya might say: β€œHello. My name is Mojtaba Khamenei. You killed my father. Prepare to… hold a grudge.”
