btw about that pixar thing, the reason why these people think having a conversation about gay people with kids is difficult is because they don't know a way to say to their kid "gay people are normal but you are not allowed to be one" without sounding like a bigot (there is a reason for that)

Yeah. As a child, reading history, it all seemed so romantic & courageous—but I had no clue just how much courage is needed when the path forward is completely obscured. And so much of history is written to intentionally cloud the gaze. I was a NASA kid—until I discovered who Werner von Braun was.
When I was a kid, I read every book I could find on WWII. The scope of the conflict and the fight against the evil of the Nazis appealed to my neurodivergent brain. But soon I came to realize the people living through that violence had no idea how it would end. They were just like us.
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

My school district is being forced to lay off several educators and a librarian because of a $500,000 budget gap, or roughly the amount spent on the war while I was typing this post.
