I came across some images of the first UK performance of Čapek’s "R.U.R." that I hadn't seen before, so I posted them online: profadamroberts.substack.com/p/some-image...

Oh.
Good stuff. Hooray for good news.
Is it any good? I never got round to watching. I love the pair of them.
Roger Deakins doing great works as ever. Beautiful stuff.
Old Marty McFly in Back to the Future 2 is wearing 2 ties for some insane reason that probably made sense when they made the movie. His elderly mum is also there.
Just remembered that men in 2015 wore double ties for a spell. Why did we do that?

If you're making a tv show and thinking of having a scene where a guy in bed reaches out sadly to the empty pillow next to them, i'd just ike to say literally the last two shows i watched both had that scene and, like, maybe, i dunno, its been done enough now, perhaps? Totally up to you though
To truly understand the Broons; one must first become the Broons.
A reminder though, mass produced sliced bread was invented AFTER the birth of Bruce Forsyth… No idea where I’m going with this.
how does the ass come off when you lmao
Downstairs on the Golden Hinde with a crowd of music fans.
Seeing the wonderful @kathrynwilliamsuk.bsky.social tonight on board The Golden Hinde. Such an unexpected and lovely venue.
Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.
OpenAI head of robotics just resigned over company deal with the Pentagon saying…

You in another decade.
Roughly early 1810s. (1990s)
Larson comic. A newspaper seller saying “well I’ve got good gnu’s and bad gnu’s”. The booth behind him is full of gnu’s. This joke doesn’t work in the UK because we pronounce gnu incorrectly.
This made me realise I pronounced it the Flanders & Swann way.
I love this cartoon.
What I would like is a site where I could log on and find the nearest publicly-accessible donkey, axolotl, raccoon, etc, whatever, to go and admire
Fair.
Mickey Edwards and colleague with the Kroll in a tank, probably at Ealing studios but not entirely sure.
Great stuff! Have you spoken to Toby or @robthatisleonard.bsky.social recently? Dad worked on The Power of Kroll in the VFX dept and I have a load of photos Rob is very keen to scan the negatives of properly for you to use.
Here’s where it comes from! Not me! www.facebook.com/share/p/16wR...
Not mine!
Someone I was in primary school had one too. Genuinely haven’t thought about him for years.
I just googled the picture, it’s not my pencil! I share your envy.
Had to doublecheck the date on this
BBC Crackerjack pencil
Apropos of nothing, I was just delighted again remembering that everyone in the UK pronounces the name of an animal (the gnu) incorrectly because of a comedy song by Flanders and Swann. No idea why that popped into my head. But it’s just wonderful that we do.
Crikey.
