Anybody read Zadie Smith's The Fraud? Can't decide if the structure is very innovative or extremely confusing but somewhere in there is a fascinating slice of Victorian literary life (and an insight into the slave trade). I dismissed it as a 3* but it's stayed with me. #booksky #historicalfiction

I read glowing reviews of Jane Austen: Rise of a Genius but it's just sycophancy and actors in bad wigs staring meaningfully into space while wiping a nib. The woman playing Jane Austen is too pretty and too 2025. Still it's made me determined to reread everything Austen for about the 20th time!
