Asked for a review piece or two to summarize the field. Didn't appreciate me asking if there was one article that summarized their field

#Com peeps: lots of communication doc students here, some attending #NCA24 the 1st time. What’s a tip to get lots out of the convention?

Here’s one: Attend your fave division’s business meeting. You’ll meet like-minded peers, connect with informal mentors, and learn if you like their vibe.

I'm not always the most outgoing person, so one that helped me was similar to this. At every panel I went to, I would try to come up with at least one question to ask, then force myself to introduce myself to the speaker and ask the question.
