Bridgnorth Diary 12/3/1866
@helen60
I lived in Manchester for many years and am now back in my home county of Shropshire. Interests include history/genealogy. Family links to Shropshire, Cheshire, Flintshire, the Wirral, Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Devon.

I was interested to find the below in the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 9 March, 1810. My 4x great-grandmother Ann Steadman was apparently cured of the "King's Evil" by Doctor Smith's Ploughman's Drops! The King's Evil was an historical term for scrofula, a form of tuberculosis. #genealogy #FamilyHistory
Pub 3319, Oak inn, Oswestry. Companionable snooze hole full of men who dont know if they are English or Welsh enjoying horses. Carpet an easy 8.5. Barmaid keeps asking me questions then disappearing. Stonehouse drinks ace.
Pub 3321, Stonehouse Brewery and Distillery, Weston. Walked down dark country lanes, worth it, very good! Bit self satisfied but good beer , good warmth, and I could stay here if required!
Pub 3320, Bell Inn, Oswestry. Feels like you're waiting for a Latvian punk band to start in a club east of Manc Piccadilly. A grower. The chicken drinks well. Mullets n mustaches both friendly.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My dad died alone in a care home during lockdown in 2021. There are people I too will never forgive for that.

#HillfortsWednesday
Old #Oswestry hillfort, Shropshire. The #hillfort, which occupies a lowland site, is one of the most #majestic in the region. The internal area is about 5.3ha. (ยฉ Clwyd-Powys #Archaeological Trust 90-mc6-0009).

A beautiful morning with crepuscular rays on the horizon. #sunrise #LongMynd #ChurchStretton #Shropshire @thephotohour.bsky.social
Pub 3318, Bailey Head, Oswestry. This is a bit special. Full of mismatched mish mashed quirky pubby enclaves n areas. Amazing Two by Two helps. Lady in scarf means I'm probably keeping my coat on. Always trust the mobility scooter. Carpet 8 but I don't need it!
Nordy Bank
Another shot along the ramparts of Nordy Bank hill fort on Brown Clee, with Caer Caradoc standing out in the distance. A magical day of mist and sunshine. #Shropshire

Happy Birthday! It's my brother's today too!
Ludlow
One of my favourite views in the whole of #Shropshire - Ludlow Castle seen from Whitcliffe Common. The medieval ruins are bathed in a golden glow at sunset, making them stand out against the distant dark slopes of Brown Clee. The light didn't last for long, so I was glad I was there to capture it.
Another stunning display just before Sunset. The foreground clouds like a sheep's fleece. The outstanding reflection of the Sunset with a strong black dividing line, provided by the silhouette of the trees.
Aston Locks Nature reserve, I told you it would not be long before they were back. #Montgomerycanal #Queenshead #Oswestry #Shropshire
As the Sun disappears for the day, the limited light amplifies the decay of the reed, and the light seems to radiate from the fur of the Rushes. The green of the grass on the hillside shows the regeneration is underway. #Montgomerycanal Light and colours display. #Shropshire

#427, Misty Morning, Whittington, Shropshire, 16/12/2016
One of those mornings where you are driving somewhere and every time you look right or left you want to stop to take a photo but can't. Eventually I found somewhere to stop for a few minutes.

Yes it is ๐ He died in 1889, and another son also drowned in 1887, at New Brighton. I should really try to see if I can date her clothing.
One of her son's died whilst serving with the U.S. Navy. I wonder if it's a telegram about his death. She looks like she might be wearing mourning clothes....
A black and white drawing of a Welsh woman in traditional costume holding a pitchfork with a tag of trouser material on one of the points. She is gesturing to two captured French soldiers, one of whom is clasping the ragged remains of the seat of his trousers. Her sheepdog is at her feet.
Jemima Fawr was a farmer in Pembrokeshire who rounded up 12 French soldiers using only a pitchfork and righteous Welsh indignation during the 1797 French invasion of Fishguard.
Happy International Women's Day. May your pitchforks be sharp, your indignation righteous and your Frenchmen rounded up.
On #InternationalWomensDay remembering Elizabeth Robinson 1838-1912 (see the Robinsons of Raby, #Cheshire!) my 2x great-grandmother. #genealogy #FamilyHistory
Postwoman Jane Preston
โHow is it that you live, and what is it you do?โ
That quote from William Wordsworth was brought to mind when I saw this photo of postwoman Jane Preston. She served Cockerham, Lancashire for 50 years until her death in 1944.
