Cover of the 40th anniversary edition of the novelization of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, by Gene Roddenberry, based on the primary poster for the movie. (Also: Pocket Books Star Trek (TOS) #1, though not mentioned on the cover.)
Personally, the ST:TMP looks and sounds great, but the plot is clunky and a rehash of one of TOS's less-inspired episodes. Roddenberry's novelization helps, but can't really save the plot. #Trek #books

Stylized illustration of a small fox-like Pokemon (Vulpix) with six large curled tails, inspired by Japanese ink-wash art. The Vulpix is crouched playfully with its front leg stretched forward and a small flame floating from its mouth. Its fur is reddish-orange with decorative spiral curls in the tail and neck, outlined in bold black brush strokes. The background resembles aged parchment with splattered ink and watercolour textures.

The "I can't sleep, let's draw something" artwork lol.

Recently played scenario J260 "Retaking Hill 772" from Journal 16. I lost with an aggressive Italian defense; Patch commented "I swear, someone designed board 25 with the express purpose of pissing people off." @multimanpublishing.bsky.social #ASL #wargame

Cover for Osprey Men-at-Arms #409: The Hussite Wars 1419-36. The cover is a crop of Angus McBride's art of Jan Zizka, a Hussite peasant, and Hussite spearman.
Old-fashioned MAA: A good concise history of the subject, with a discussion of the arms and armor used by the armies involved. I could wish for a lot more, but the Hussite wars don't get a lot of attention in English. #book #history @ospreypublishing.bsky.social

Cover of the Diversion Books edition of Great Britain and the American Civil War by Ephraim Douglass Adams. This is just the Project Gutenberg version put into Amazon's Kindle format, and loses footnote linking in the process.
You'd think a book full of diplomatic correspondence would be dry, but this examination of British ACW diplomacy is pretty good, *if* you're ready for the weeds. From 1924, you should go get this from Project Gutenberg. #books #ACW #history

Shot of the Chariots of Fire Troy scenario late in turn 4. The Danaans (Greeks, brown) have gotten a good chunk of their army across the Scamander. The two lines have come into contact, and Trojan army (red) is about to get into trouble. Danaan units will also rout, but the multiple lines of reinforcements will carry the day.
Me and Mark recently returned to Chariots of Fire for the heroic epic, Troy. I think the bits with heroes and heroic challenges need work, but it is a very interesting scenario. #GBoH #wargames @gmtgames.bsky.social

An illustration of Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur overlooking an overgrown, post-apocalyptic, industrial city. There are pokemon roaming and resting in the background such as skiploom, unfezant, and altaria.
a loose illustration of piplup and torchic running through the snow, seen from above. theyโre wearing winter hats and cloaks, and there are light blue shadows of trees and footprints in the snow
Illustration of piplup and torchic in a floaty together. They are floating in the water through some old stone formations. The stones behind them are stacked and carved like a slowbro and its tail. There are also some taillows and cutieflies around the area
Illustration of peaceful scenery based on Palette town, with a wide field of grass and a couple buildings and windmills. There are wooloo on the grass with a sleeping nidoran among them. On the rooftop in the foreground, some starlies are perched and a ratatta is nibbling on bread. Skiplooms are floating about. There are white clouds and a rainbow in the sky in the back. The faint silhouette of a ho-oh can be seen flying under the rainbow.

One of the things I find frustrating about sci-fi is that because of the American influence of it, all of the planets are called things like Zexion 5 and Danshassia 7. Iโd call them things like โNether Roundthorpeโ and โSpheresburyโ. Gravity Bywell. Chalfont St Globeby. Bishopโs Goitre.

Front cover for furry-contemporary-fantasy-lesbian-romance Fairy Tales by Robin.
The main problem with one of FurPlanet's novels last year is that the somewhat generic name, "Fairy Tales", and one name author, "Robin", make it hard to it look up in catalog listings. And it is worth looking up. #book #furry @furplanet.com

Different games generally have different types of depth.
Abstracts: Simple rules, limited number of pieces; how many moves ahead can you plan?
RPGs and various games: You have one piece, how many things can you do with it?
Wargames: You have a large number of pieces, with limited actions on each.

It should also be remembered that Yamato is an allegory for WWII. An allegory of Japan and the Pacific theater, but the point stands that a number of WWIIisms are *entirely* apropos.
