when alicent receives the news of his death, she is heartbroken. here was the child she sent away to keep safe and innocent but she had only sent him to his death, with little memory of what he enjoyed, how he looked, how his voice sounded and the different ways in which he would say i love you.

there is a vision of a woman in his mind that he believes is his mother but his memory is faulty so perhaps what he envisions is just a stranger with his mother's features. he wants to prove that his memory is superior and that he hasn't been praying to a faceless woman only known as mother.
