Still really like the lighting on this portrait β¨

In my little game, an infectious curse spreads through the land, slowly turning people into beasts. After countless failed attempts to cure it, he found a temporary way to control it, at a cost. Still, he chose to embrace it for the greater good. ππ
This is gonna be the last post about light and shadows for a while. Time to do some actual gameplay :D That being said, I'm really happy by how this hybrid soft shadows turned out :) #pixelart #shadows #lighting #indiedev #gamedev #solodev #goth #survival
Some thoughts: When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge. You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be. Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history. You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired. Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.
Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Beautiful work! I love how these are looking, great texture too!
Do you mind sharing a screenshot of the UV map? I struggle a lot with getting a manageable UV layout for my character, something I can easily update and work on.
Been working on custom characters for a low-poly/PS2-era style. #gamedev #3d #lowpoly

Thank you Sebastian! Means a lot. I actually learn a lot from VP, it's basically observing other art and practicing compositions and cinematography. It impacted my gamedev too, it's all related!

Thank you! It's a character in a story I'm writing, her story is about vengeance and fire, so I wanted a visual representation of that through her eyes.
