On top of that, the currency, skins and waiting a day to do stuff made people think it was a shitty mobile game that was gonna eat your credit card.
Which is all a huge shame because the end product is amazing and I wish more people tried it!
Honestly, I'm not super convinced by that, I think the game's a really hard sell to most people on some level or another. XCOM players don't want the deckbuilder or the social elements, superhero fans don't want to be playing an OC, the social players clash with the strategy system.
Could also have put Slay the Spire or Binding of Isaac on there. Or Balatro. Maybe one of the RPGs I've sunk a lot of hours into. Maybe even Magic: Arena.

Contradiction: Spot The Liar - Could have gone in Dekker's slot, really fun game, but you do play as a cop so
Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker - I loooove this kind of FMV game and this is a really interesting, well-written, well-acted and suspenseful experience!
Super Smash Bros Brawl - Subspace Emissary is unbelievably fucking good this shit went so hard when I was a kid lmao
Marvel's Midnight Suns - Imagine if XCOM had social elements (that border on dating sim), this shit rules so hard and I'm so sad it didn't do very well. Had some fun takes on certain characters and it was nice to see people like Nico and Magik take the spotlight.
Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 - Still holds up immensely well. I slightly prefer this to the Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking series just because I prefer the style of fighting - it's a bit more tightly crafted, and a bit more responsive - but they're both good.
League of Legends - Yeah I used to play this a lot. I've had so much fun with it with friends. It's a really fantastic blend of the moment-to-moment skill and reflexes of a fighting game with the bigger picture thinking of an RTS. Just don't play it solo lmao
