From Morrison stripping away his self-image to Whedon (yes he sucks) having him reject Xavier and literally die and resurrect (the great "To me, my X-Men" moment) to Bendis portraying him as a radicalized revolution, there was about a decade+ of great Cyclops growth that feels walked back now.

I suppose the closest comparison is Dial of Destiny, with Anthony Ingruber as a body double with Ford's digital face. Arnold has already done the body double thing a few times in the Terminator movies, with Brett Azar in Genisys and Dark Fate seemingly being the go-to guy now.

I think what's key to why this works is the movie itself is in on the joke. That light exploding at the end behind Bale β a perfect punchline to the coolest/silliest shit ever put onscreen.

I feel like the opening dance number from Mulholland Drive could also work really well here.

A line my parents and brother and I still say to this day is Keith David's "Aww, lookie here. Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy!" from Men at Work (1990). Growing up in the 1990s, the height of humor was, "White people, amirite?" And it was delightful!

A feel like a big part of this is, much like The Office, Friends was a Netflix mainstay for years (apparently from January 2015 to December 2019). A college student now probably got exposed to it quite a bit in those pre-Peacock, pre-HBO MAX days.

Yeah, there's a season 7 episode of The Simpsons in which a bear is roaming the streets, and Homer leads a rally chanting, "We're here, we're queer, we don't want anymore bears!" That was 1996, and the joke was predicated on the slogan already being well-known.

Yeah, I've always wondered why people imagined Predators as like Klingons. They're the equivalent of a hunter wearing camo shooting a deer.

I would offer for consideration into the canon:
Kraven's Last Hunt (1987) by J. M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck published in 1987
Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment by Roger Stern & Mike Mignola (1989)

I also do not care for Identity Crisis at all, but what makes it even worse is "Doctor Light wants to sexually assault...everyone" became his de facto characterization for the next decade. It was everywhere, from Teen Titans to Final Crisis. Just...WTF.

What bothers me about this...is in "Space Seed," Kirk and Scotty did learn about Khan in school, and get into an interesting ideological discussion with Spock about if the dictator was an admirable figure or not. The Kelvin incident apparently changed Academy curriculum....

Well into my 20s before I realized Paul's warning about bears and menstrual cycles, Ginny's "Paul, there's something I think I should tell you" and the "Beware of Bears" message on the mirror. Either they abstain (funny way of doing the virginal final girl) or don't....

The thing is, back in 1981 watching this movie, you think you're watching a sequel to a movie about a killer who drives a jeep and can talk. As more details are revealed the opening becomes a bit of a cheat, but in the moment perhaps there's a red herring of "Is this Pamela back from the dead?"

WRATH OF KHAN points out that Kirk needs glasses because he's allergic to the chemical that fixes most people's eyesight. Not only is it a clever workaround, it makes Kirk relatable to the audience even as he deals with fantastical circumstances. Same could be said for a character in a wheelchair!

I've always thought there was a couple vibe between Joey and Kincaid, especially in 4. So you can view the seductresses as representing Joey's repressed sexuality (since they turn out to be Freddy in disguise).
