melon is good so far in the anime, and they restructure it a tiny bit there so that the pacing overall is a bit more bareable.
the issue is later on... no spoilers, but i'll just at the very least say that he lacks any of the 3 dimensionality and depth that makes me love other villains in beastars.

finished the beastars manga. not gonna spoil anything but melon is probably one of the worst villains i've read in manga. the rest is still good tho

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
It's so, so important right now that everyone reads or watches Persepolis. Convince your grandparents to do it. Your friends. Your children. War cannot happen if we see each other as human beings with souls and those in power will try very, very hard to make sure that doesn't happen.
and as a result pivot to borderline dehumanization and a belief that since it's gone on for so long they must be desensitized to it.
The reality is that damn near everyone there is terrified, multiple generations in a row have been traumatized and it's just sad. I have to reread it for sure.
My teacher made us analyze persepolis as one of our end of year assignments around the end of middle school. To this day, it's one of my most impactful reads that has helped me keep an open mind about people in war. Most seem to not understand the extent of suffering in the gulf, (1/2)
