However, core beliefs (5 Pillars) are non-negotiable. That includes observing Ramadan.
5. Teacher role:
Don't: enforce, manage, or interfere with your students' religious practices.
Don't: ask them to explain their religion to you.
Do: Educate yourself if you have questions.
Do: Acknowledge their experiences & be supportive.

Strongly recommend this excellent piece. It actually understates the US failure: Brazil and S. Korea aren’t outliers. Quite the opposite. Since 2010, 31 democracies have convicted or banned leaders from office. Accountability is the democratic norm. America is the sole outlier.
Part of it too, is an over reliance on “data” and not actual interaction with their constituents.
We need to be really clear that this kind of incident is going to make it harder for communities to find missing children in legitimate scenarios
