How will we train junior developers in a world of generative AI without risking a legion of shallow developers that may grow dependent on AI and plateau early; unable to scale complexity or take ownership of critical systems. vaughndickson.com/2025/06/06/h...

The biggest mistake new CTOs make? Thinking their team is still the tech team.

Once you're in the C-suite, your real job is aligning tech with business strategy. You’re not just building systems β€” you're steering the ship.

Code less. Connect more.

screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. β€œyou simply must visit the monsterβ€”i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

If your app sends essential notifications like order tracking, don’t ruin it with spam. I shouldn’t have to turn off all notifications just to avoid marketing because finding the opt-out settings is a hassle.

Woolworths, Clicks, Sixty60, Mr. Deliveryβ€”you’re all guilty.

Has anyone tested Github Copilot and Jetbrains AI in Pycharm? I'm starting to suspect the Pycharm plugin isn't as good as the VS Code integration πŸ€” Would also be great to use Claude inside my IDE.

Getting to Two Million Users as a One Woman Dev Team The story of the The StoryGraph with graphs

Three pillars that seem simple but are harder to follow than you'd expect:
- Keep costs low
- Keep the tech simple
- Keep talking to customers

Far better to have a smaller team to force everyone to be highly selective in what gets built, leading to better quality and impact, instead of just being a feature factory to keep devs busy.

When I was a fresh CTO, I thought more developers would help me keep up with business needs. As an old and jaded one, I realised the business needs and demands will always outpace whatever resourcing you get.

Step 1: get users
Step 2: ?
Step 3: profit!

Ads and subscriptions will come soon. And then advertising will skew the algo.

Running around reactively shouting β€œCan this be done faster?”, and β€œThis is too complex!” Is not leadership. 1/n
