btw I really wanna enphasize I've liked every starter design from the moment they were announced up until gen 9

don't come at me with "they're first stages" none of the other first stages bothered me like this don't pretend they were this bad they were great, inspired, they atleast fucking tried

the bird is the only one with any amount of personality (that isn't dog that behaves like a dog) and it's not even that interesting, you can't tell wether it's grumpy, angry or motivated, it has serious eyebrows and that's the most this design has to stand out beyond bird made of (I think) cotton

and don't even get me started on how unoriginal they are

a cartoon dog with no twist on that premise whatsoever, it's just a dog
a very shallow attempt at combining sobble and froakie
and a reskinned rowlet with a little torchic in it to make it slightly different

these gen 10 starter designs are about as interesting as chat gpt's attempt at generating a cartoon dog is cute

it's the most shallow, unprovocative attempt at a cute design, it has nothing to say, nothing to express, it just wants you to go "aww" it's what jumpscares are to horror

and don't come with any "but they are first stage" shit, I've never had any problems with first stage starters when they were announced, the gen just before this had amazing first stages, it's genuinely only these 3 that are bad this is not a "first-stage starter" issue first stage starters are cool

they don't look like they fit into this region any more than any other region, they don't have any twist to their design, they are just colorful animals, two of them being repeats and one being such a generic looking good it explains why they never did a dog starter before,

the thing I love about character design is there is no such thing as ugly or pretty, every design can have value in what it is trying to say...these designs aren't saying anything

ima be real mean with this one because ive been an avid defender of pokemon every gen, ive always defended every gen reveal from the day it was announced, and I genuinely think gen 9 had one of the best starter trios
