After the short photograph description, I’ve written a ghost story to go with scene. Our photograph shows an ornate stone mausoleum in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. The structure is octagonal in shape and raised on a low, stepped platform. It is built from pale grey and beige stone, darkened in places by age and weather. Our picture is finished with a white border frame. Now for our spooky tale… I call it…The Ghosts of Glasnevin Cemetery They say Glasnevin never truly sleeps. On certain evenings, when the clouds hang low & the wind whispers through the yew trees, the dead remember how to walk. It was on such a night that Seán wandered past the old mausoleum with the angels on its roof. He had meant only to take a shortcut home, but something drew his eyes upward to the cross silhouetted against the bruised sky. From beneath the arches came the faint sound of footsteps. Seán froze. At first, he thought it was his own echo. Then he saw them: pale figures drifting between the columns, their forms soft as fog, their faces blurred. A woman in Victorian black glided past the tomb, her veil lifting in a breeze that Seán could not feel. An old man leaned on an invisible cane, staring into the distance as though still waiting for someone who never arrived. They did not look at him. One by one, more shapes emerged from the shadows of the graves. Children chasing laughter that no longer existed, soldiers standing to quiet attention, lovers walking hand in hand through paths that led nowhere. Seán backed away slowly, heart pounding. As he turned to leave, he felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. Behind him stood a young boy, eyes glowing softly in the dark. “Don’t be afraid,” the child whispered. “We only come out to remember.” Then the wind rose, the clouds shifted, & the figures faded back into the cemetery’s ancient silence. Seán hurried home and never took that shortcut. When you pass Glasnevin at dusk, you might notice movement at the corner of your eye.

The most glorious gate from the #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast #HuttonToBrentKnoll leg: #StChristopherLympsham. Sadly not all gates are looked after in the way they should be. This poor gate is one such. It once glistened with decoration and a fine gas mantle overthrow #Thursgate
