This seems like a perfect opportunity to share that our annual Winter Soiree is open for registration, with chat and games on the theme of 'In the Bleak Midwinter'. It's Christmas, but make it gothic... www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/at-home-wi...

Enjoyed this month's 'At Home' with @19cdandtreframed.bsky.social on the theme of cross-dressing. Particularly intrigued by professional male impersonator Annie Hindle and her string of bigamous, same sex marriages across the States, carried out under a male pseudonym - her husband's name.

And best of all it has a maker’s label - J MacNeille of Ayr. Founded by John MacNeille at 4 High Street, Ayr, Ayrshire, by 1830. By 1845 the business also has leather warehouse on Old Bridge Street, which by 1849 had became main business. MacNeille was later elected Provost of Ayr in 1864.

Description for all views, which is 4 different angles. A bubblegum pink silk taffeta dress on a mannequin, long sleeves, square neckline, pleated trim on sleeve hems. Bodice ends in point in front and has laced closure in back. The skirt front seems to be pleated. The back half of skirt has scalloped edge at hem.
Sheer cream (I suspect it is patina and was white) over skirt forming in an apron-like manner in front, and also long in back, but with lifted sides with black velvet ribbons at sides. This piece is trimmed with black velvet ribbon.
Look at the bright pink color!

Dark blue taffeta silk ground with medieval quatrefoil design embroidery. Red silk couching, outlined with gold surface couching, and green split stitch dots
Material Engagement Sunday: currently working on the yoke for the c.1200 bliault. Silk and gold embroidery. It's finished, I'm sewing it onto the red now. Let's see, what about hashtags like #AcademicDressRecreation and of course #DressHistory #MedievalSky

Mannequin wearing a beige colored corset, a white long chemise and beige striped bustle.
An example of how (a part of) the underpinnings would look like from ca 1885. What’s missing is corset cover and pettticoat(s) (and stockings)
The structure in back is called bustle or tornure.

Embroidered waistcoat detail with bright flowers and sequins
Being at work on a Saturday is always confusing for my body and brain but it’s worth it when I get to hang out with treats like this, a circa 1745 men’s waistcoat. collections.royal-needlework.org.uk/object-col-2...

Front and back view of a shaded green dress with pleating and decorative buttons
Cuff detail in two shades of green, pleated and trimmed
Bodice detail in two shades of green silk with wide lapels, embroidered buttons and a silk bow
There is a hint of the reptilian to this mid #1870s dress. The angled pleating and position of the decorative buttons lends it an air of a watchful crocodile in shaded greens, the tongue of pale train skirting its hem, Mme Depret Paris @metcostume.bsky.social
