I'm thrilled to see a recently published lecture by my favorite philosopher, Vinciane Despret. Anyone interested in the ways in which we relate to animals should follow her work.

11. Still Life (1997). Intersperses footage of ad photographers with essayistic ruminating on 17th century still life paintings. Secular capitalism seemingly eliminates the possibility of divine objects while channeling the divine into the commodity through ideas of beauty, luxury, and perfection.
Do you also collect objects?
The episode about the temporality and materiality of objects at #themuseumofinnocence is now online.
I am joined by art historian and curator Irem Sezer, and we discussed the story of #OrhanPamuk’s novel by focusing on the museum itself.

Freud would says that the sexuality of women is a “dark continent.” What is a continent in the minds of men? A place for discovery, conquest, settlement, extraction, and plantation. In their eyes, they are the sun emerging from Plato’s cave, bringing light to what they perceive as a primitive void.
I wrote on the search for the feminine subjectivity through power of writing, and held hands of #AnnieErnaux and #VigdisHjorth.

Enjoy! I love Is Mother Dead too; it’s such a great critique of patriarchy that challenges the relationship with complicit mothers. I love Fosse as well! The darkness and coldness of his writing flow affectively.
a wonderful essay about Hjorth's If Only, the difference between male and female writers, and the power of writing (as a form of surviving tool for women)

It is very hopeful for all of us that the future might be brighter, and racial capitalism will have less and less of an impact on the world of the new generation. Winning against billionaires shows that people united will never be defeated.
This book helps us rethink our positionality as distant witnesses, our possible instincts of “saviorism,” and the role of photography in shaping perception. I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as I did.
