The logical conclusion of a society that charges people with assault for getting their bones broken by the police

if the Justice Department and federal judges are willing to set the bar for “providing material support to terrorists” this low—an encrypted group chat, auto-deleting messages, wearing black, possessing zines—what the Praireland defendants have been through will likely be just the beginning

as a music listener you will be rewarded tenfold spending $15-$20 to see a local act at a local venue. make live music a regular thing, not one more unreasonable facet of our profiteering corporate hellscape
GENEVA (AP) - UN refugee agency says up to 3.2 million people in Iran have been displaced by the war.

Must read: xAI is poisoning Mississippi, captured via thermal imaging.
Maybe they relied on AI to pick targets. But they bombed the school twice, hitting it again 40 minutes after the initial strike, in order to kill survivors and first responders. The mere *existence* of AI means no one has to be held responsible for this crime against humanity
guy who’s been hanging by a thread for months: Yeah this time change is really fucking me up
Newly released footage shows an ICE agent killing Rubin Ray Martinez, 23, in his car in Texas.
"He was shot at point-blank range through his side window by an ICE agent who was in no danger."

The obvious wisdom and effectiveness of Housing First is obscured by the fact we've made "a tiny, no-frills apartment" an expensive status symbol in huge swathes of the country by creating an artificial housing shortage
I’m trying to imagine what would happen if a Democratic senator literally broke a military veteran’s forearm, which appears to be what happens here.
Trying it out this week!
If you’ve arrived at the “doctors do medicine for money and therefore can’t be trusted” stage of your theory, they should take the sharp objects out of your house
Thom Tillis speaks for all dog people lmao
Sedgwick’s prescription is “reparative reading,” a theory of more flexible sense-making that can hold truth and provide an antidote to the overwhelming paranoia of our times. While the conventional wisdom states, “Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean you don’t have enemies,” Sedgwick turns this formula on its head: “Just because you have enemies doesn’t mean you have to be paranoid.” Or to put it another way, having a direct understanding of systemic oppression (the healthcare system, police violence, the fascist state) does not condemn a person to a categorically paranoid point of view. To practice a worldview more expansive and more open to possibilities than paranoia does not mean you have to deny the reality or gravity of oppression.
Feeling paranoid about stochastic violence and weaponized media? Me too. That's why I can't stop thinking about this incredibly helpful essay by @littlewow.online in @flaminghydra.com about the idea of "reparative reading" as a corrective to the "paranoid style." flaminghydra.com/issue-511/
The "job" of an op/ed page isn't found in nature, it is not some objective thing you are revealing to us here. What determines the "job" of an op/ed page is the result of decisions made by that paper's editors. Consequently, it is always a choice to provide a platform for propaganda.

Fitting that in America’s final form, the epicenter of evil will be a private golf resort for wealthy pedophiles.
In case you’re just waking up, the U.S. has teamed up with Israel overnight to start an illegal war of regime change, apparently on a presidential whim with no involvement of Congress, and they are already committing horrific atrocities.

The first deaths announced from the US-Israeli strikes on Iran: dozens of school girls. They hit an elementary school in Hormozgan.
…the koala, also known as “the Queensland kobold”…
Really funny to see someone who works for the Times say the US has always been a nation of “newspapers and newspapermen.” I think you may be a bit biased.
Always clarifying to hear politicians say this out loud. The truth is that the U.S. has always treated voting as a privilege, not a right, and still does today by blocking millions with past criminal convictions from voting—to say nothing of the functional blocks it places on millions of others.
Unfortunately, this would be too effective. Better to posture at a fight while sending state police to protect ICE agents.
really starting to understand why that old woman left it all behind to go live in a shoe

Some Dallas stuff: If the city of Dallas sells its city hall that it failed to maintain, the city will only be able to put forward 50% of the proceeds toward a new one because of a narrowly approved proposition funded by a right-wing megadonor that puts 50% of new revenue into police budgets. 1/
