If you want to know how low the bar can go, I was occasionally offered the chance to write 'opinion pieces' on things after going on an in-office rant at Newshub... only twice did I take up the offer. One was about house prices, the other... time travel

I didn't grow up in Auckland, but I can tell you with 100 percent certainty it was us kids on BMXs and cheap Warehouse mountain bikes that ruled Hamilton in the '90s

I wonder if it ever occurred to them many people learn how to ride a bike a couple of decades before they learn how to drive a car

Auckland Council thinks cycling is a 'relatively new' thing, compared to driving 🫠 www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

Okay you may be right - yes it was MS, mum never shelled out for a MD πŸ˜‚

Yeah, that's a Megadrive/Genesis cartridge. I never beat it, my little brother did though 🫠

Sandy Sandilands, the UK Defence AttachΓ© to the United Arab Emirates

Sorry, but I just learned about the UK defence attachΓ© to the United Arab Emirates, then I had to spend ages verifying that instance of nominative determinism

Good news is I will never again, ever, think a lyric I write is too on the nose or cheesy. Bad news is I will never kick as much ass as KMFDM, but ah well

$180, good god, not $1809

Anyway, after an argument with Copilot about whether or not the stickers add or subtract value, and TradeMe's algorithm suggesting it was potentially worth $1809, I've put an absurd 'buy now' price on it, otherwise it's up for $1 reserve until Thursday www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplac...

Right, it's been boxed with the Megadrive and some books, labelled "ancient tech"

My first one was second-hand, about $800 incl tape drives and cassettes, in 87 or 88. Second one I remember I paid for myself was $130 in 91 or 92

That's a pretty decent return! Did it have the drives and everything? I'm not sure what happened to the two C64s I had as a kid, but even in 2000 $30 seemed like a ridiculous bargain when it came with disk drives and everythign

Non-zero chance this C64 I bought in 2000 for $30 is now the most valuable thing I own

Moving house soon, and it's smaller than this place. WTF do I do with this? It's objectively garbage, but it was also my first amp which I learned to play on (so obviously this is no advertisement for its quality) (and that's marker pen on my hand, been marking boxes)
