"Too many of our religious leaders have clearly failed to oppose violence..Some of America’s most popular religious leaders have twisted the teachings of Jesus Christ beyond all recognition to justify an even more massive investment in the weapons of death & military destruction"-Coretta Scott King

How about a little good news on an otherwise wild spring Friday?

Found out that the good people at the @louisvilleinstitute have agreed to fund work on my new book, "Committed: The Lives, Work and Love of Charles and Shirley Sherrod."

So very honored to learn from and share their beautiful story

Medgar Evers’ killer was a Klansman, but Trump administration says stop calling him a racist - Mississippi Today Among anticipated changes to a new visitor brochure for the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Home National Monument is no longer using "racist" to describe the killer of the civil rights leader.

I am speechless.

"Minnesotans are insisting that their neighbors are their neighbors whether they were born in Minneapolis or Mogadishu. That is, arguably, a deeply Christian philosophy, one apparently loathed by some of the most powerful Christians in America." Beautiful, @adamserwer.bsky.social

God with Us For many, the struggle over civil rights was not just about lunch counters, waiting rooms, or even access to the vote; it was also aboutΒ Christian theology....

Totally! I just have a different take on it somewhat. But always interesting to think through historical successes and failures! uncpress.org/978146964676...

He also learned a lot abt the internal dynamics bw fellow activists! But I do not think the Albany Movement is rightly understood as a failure. That is not how Sherrod and others who stayed/lived there felt about it. It awakened something in people and showed them how to live without fear!

Whoa. Thank you for sharing this with me! Any other information I should have about Church of the Highlands? (That's the specific project; wanting to put its rise in the broader context of ARC/nondenom churches).

Well look at that. The inimitable @ansleyquiros.bsky.social gets a cite in Doug Wilson’s new apologia for Christian nationalism. And of course, he misrepresents (or didn’t read) her argument. @prri.org

Did empathy come up? An important part of healthy masculinity (Ortland, etc.) that has gotten coded feminine and been obviously attacked by the Right. Curious if that has filtered down to students..
